New software to learn and lessons to plan

I visited 3 cool websites today that I want to share.
The first is the Savvy Intern’s post on what new software you should know. Obviously I am not an intern, but I found the article well written and a friendly reminder that I need to keep my skills updated.
The second website was the blog – The Blooming Palette. It is filled with cool lesson plans and nice wayst to pitch them to your students. I like how she goes into depth and introduces some of the conceptual things we need to think about when making an artwork.
Last is Randleman High School’s website and a very cool lesson on resist watercolor painting using rubber cement. Now if only I had gallons of the stuff I would do that too!

T-shirt Yarn Videos & Instructions

I have been long since been interested in T-shirt Yarn. I wondered how to make it and went to You Tube, the all purpose search engine.

I like the video above, better than the others I found on You Tube, because of the camera angle and the idea of looping the T-shirt around an ironing board.

This video shows how to join 2 pieces of T-shirt yarn without a huge knot showing.

Shopping Cart Adventure continues

I received an email from coffee cup software and looked at their shopping cart software that integrates with paypal. Interesting. But then the $49 version doesn’t do alot of stuff the $129 pro version does and I am wondering how it will integrate with the wordpress blog.
I could go with Paypal by itself, but I would like something purty.
Google Checkout is another option. they charge a 2.9% fee as well as .30 per transaction if you sell less that $3k per month. Is that alot, or is it just me?
Dreamhost has partnered with WebAssist and made this project called CafeCommerce. It’s $30 a month, no transaction fees and no set-up fees. To process credit cards via CafeCommerce you can use paypal or e-online data. E-online data charges .25 per transaction as well as a $10 monthly service fee and a $10 monthly processing minimum fee.
So my question to myself is, would it be cheaper to go with a per transaction charge if we (the client and I) don’t know how much business we would originally start out with.

Searching for a good E-commerce Platform

I have been looking at various E-commerce solutions. Zen-cart is an open source E-commerce software that usually installs with several different webhosting providers. I met someone recently whom recommended Shopify. I found an interesting article on top-ten reviews that compares the different E-commerce packages out there.
Also JoelX wrote a blog post comparing some of the major E-commerce sites.

As the Victoria era came to an end, the influences of the industrial revolution created more and more varied members of the upper middle class. The concepts of vacationing, tourism, and travel became less the property of the old monied, and shared by an increasing population base of those who could afford holiday trips like the rich. Such adventures had much allure in the days before any audio-visual entertainments outside a live orchestra. Thus, the spas began attracting an increasing number of local patrons as well as those from afar just at the time when the burgeoning numbers were able to take advantage of the newfangled automobile and the now extensive railways throughout most all of Europe and the United States. The Spa towns already had infrastructure and attractions in place to assuage such desires, and the modern tourist trip began to take its familiar form. Other technologies came into play (Ski’s, Ski boats, etc.)
